Lost tax documents
How to replace tax documents you can't find.
If you've lost a tax document, start with whoever issued it. Employers, banks, brokerages, and other payers can usually send you a replacement faster than any other route.
Your Tax Pro can only work from the information you give them, and we aren't able to retrieve your documents on your behalf. If the issuer can't replace a document, the IRS may have a record of it.
Request a wage and income transcript from the IRS
The IRS Get Transcript tool shows the data reported to the IRS on informational returns: Form W-2, the Form 1099 series, the Form 1098 series, and the Form 5498 series. State and local information isn't included with the Form W-2 data.
Transcripts are available for the past ten tax years. Information for the current tax year may not be complete until July. The Get Transcript FAQs cover the rest of the detail.
You can also request a wage and income transcript by mail using Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return.
