What is my relationship with my Pro?

Who your Tax Pro is

Your return is prepared by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an Enrolled Agent (EA). We call them Tax Pros. Every Tax Pro in the network is an independent professional, not a Taxfyle employee, and each one clears Taxfyle's screening before gaining access to client work. You can read what that screening covers here.

CPAs are licensed by a state board of accountancy. To earn the credential, they meet their state's education and experience requirements and pass the CPA Exam, one of the more demanding professional exams in the country.

CPAs who practice in tax answer to several layers of oversight at once: professional tax ethics standards, Treasury Department Circular 230, their state licensing board, and the professional associations they belong to.

EAs are licensed directly by the IRS. Most earn the credential by passing a three-part exam covering individual returns, business returns, and representation before the IRS. EAs are bound by Circular 230 as well.

Both credentials have to be kept current. CPAs and EAs complete continuing professional education and renew their licenses on a set schedule, so the person handling your return is up to date on the rules that apply to it.

Tax Pros in the Taxfyle network average 12+ years of experience filing returns and are well versed in all types of tax situations so you can file confidently with us.

How you work together

Tax Pros set their own schedules and choose which jobs to accept. Your answers to the Taxfyle questionnaire determine which Tax Pros see your job, so the one who takes it has experience with the service you asked for.

Once you are matched, give your Tax Pro the details of your financial activity for the tax year so they can complete your filings. Share documents and ask questions in the job chat.

Keep the conversation inside Taxfyle. Every message and document stays with the job, so you and your Tax Pro both have an accurate record to refer back to later. Reaching your Tax Pro outside the platform is not permitted.

Replying by email is the one exception, and it still lands in the job chat. When we email you about activity on your job, you can reply straight from your inbox and we post your response to the job chat for your Tax Pro. A few things to know:

  • Reply from the email address on your Taxfyle account. We can't match a reply sent from any other address to your job, so it won't reach your Tax Pro.
  • Write above the quoted message. We post only your new text and trim out quoted history and email signatures.
  • You can attach files. We add attachments to your job's documents automatically, up to 35MB per email. We can't attach anything larger, and you'll see a note in the chat asking you to upload those files in the platform instead.
  • Replies stop once a job is closed. If you email after your job has been completed and closed, you'll get an automatic response pointing you to our Support team, who can reopen your filing if you have new information to share.

Please don't send Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or other sensitive details by email. Upload documents or send them in the job chat, where they stay protected.

When the engagement closes, rate your Tax Pro from one to five, with five being exceptional. Those ratings are how we track quality across the network, so your feedback matters.
