Tax return cancellation, audit protection, and how we handle it.

What if I want to cancel my tax return preparation?

You may cancel your return preparation through the Taxfyle platform at any time by informing your Pro and contacting the success team through the help chat. Please note cancellation requests are subject to the following:

Before Job Starts - If you request a cancellation of services before your job is picked up within the platform (or before your Pro begins communication through chat), you will be refunded immediately and no cancellation fee will apply. This may occur in instances where users accidentally submit a job and realize the error soon after.

Job just started - If you request a cancellation after your Pro has accepted your engagement and communicated with you or commenced their review of your uploaded documents (i.e. job just started but either you or your Pro are not fully engaged in the discussion of your return), a cancellation fee equal to 15% of your quote will apply.

Job in progress - If you request a cancellation after your Pro has picked up your engagement, communicated with you, and began reviewing your documents (i.e. you and your pro are fully engaged in the discussion of your return), then a cancellation fee of 35% of your quote will apply.

Job almost complete - If you request a cancellation after your Pro has drafted/substantially completed your tax return, then a cancellation fee of 70% of your quote will apply.

Job Completed - If you request a refund after your return has been completed and your Pro has marked the engagement complete, you may qualify for a money back guarantee depending on the claims and evidence noted. If Taxfyle determines there was a clear error or omission made by your Pro, your engagement may be reopened for correction.

What if I’m audited?

When filing your personal return, Taxfyle offers audit protection for an additional $34.99. With Taxfyle audit protection, IRS or state representation is offered by Taxfyle Pros, free of any additional charges for 3 years after filing, so long as the audit does not arise from your willful or fraudulent omission or inclusion of information on your tax return.

Unfortunately, we don't currently include audit protection for business returns filed using the Taxfyle platform. Please make sure to review your return to assure all relevant information is captured.

Maintaining records in order to substantiate your expenses is highly recommended in the event of an audit. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your Pro.
